COMMERCIAL KANGAROO HARVEST OPERATION Ex Cunnamulla SW QLD There is an opportunity to accompany a professional kangaroo shooter on his operation when he harvests Big Red & Eastern Grey Kangaroos in a commercial manner. The meat is used for a human consumption or a pet food and skins are utilised by a leather and fur industry sector in Australia. This is a chance to see first hand how the kangaroo harvesting industry is put to the good use in the Outback and how Australians utilise their animal land resources. You will be picked up by the kangaroo shooter from Warrego Hotel in Cunnamulla and you will go with him for a night time shooting. He will show you the technique of harvesting roos in a humane way and how the carcasses and skins are handled in a professional manner before they reach their destination. The roo shooter will use the spotlight and a centerfire small calibre rifle to shoot the roos - the humane way of harvesting the critters is to shoot them through the head only. The distances vary greatly from 50 up to 250 meters. You will be allowed to use the shooter flat trajectory rifle which is tuned up to the perfection. You will be asked to give a hand to collect the carcasses and hang them on the hooks at the back of the shooting vehicle. There will be an ample opportunity to have a go at pigs or foxes which you may encounter during the night hunt with the shooter. You will be able to use his rifle and ammo which both are perfectly suited to do the job in the best possible manner. You may use your own equipment, but we strongly recommend to take an advantage of using a professional gear. You may set up for a night or two with the pro shooter. He starts his operations at about late afternoon and he finishes early morning each day. He may pick you up from the hotel in the afternoon and deliver you back to the hotel in the late morning. The costs of the hotel stay in Cunnamulla are A$ 20 - A$ 40 for a double bed room with the cost of breakfast starting at A$ 10.00 and a dinner at about A$ 20.00. The cost of going for a one night roo shooting with a professional kangaroo shooter is A$ 300 per person which includes all transportation from and back to Cunnnamulla, loan of rifle and ammo.
